Nominations Process for the CPF National Board
Governing a national nonprofit organization is an important job. Our board of directors is made up of volunteers who care deeply about French-second-language education in Canada. These board members come from all walks of life and all regions of Canada, and it is the Nominations Committee that helps to select a well-rounded and functional board.
The committee includes CPF National Board members and is currently looking for at least two representatives from the general membership. These representatives will be selected through a nominations process, so any current member of CPF who would like to serve on the Committee is eligible. Are you interested in having a say in selecting the individuals who will serve this organization and its needs?
As a member of the Nominations Committee, your duties would include adopting the criteria for selection of new Board members, reviewing their resumés and other documentation, contacting candidates’ references, and participating in telephone interviews with each of the candidates. Duties also include preparing the final selection of the slate of nominees for presentation at the 2010 Annual General Meeting. This process will unfold mostly in June, but may extend later into the summer.
CPF members interested in serving on the Nominations Committee may nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else or by their branch. Nominations must include a current email address and telephone number for the nominee. We look forward to hearing from interested CPF members. Nominations should be sent by email by March 31, 2010 to the Committee Chair, Laurel McIntyre, at cpf.mcintyre@gmail.com.
Call for Nominations to the National Board
Are you up to the challenges and rewards of being a CPF National Board member?
The National Board of Canadian Parents for French is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of a national network of volunteers that is currently at 26,000 members and growing. We need individuals with a genuine interest in language acquisition, an awareness of issues related to second-language learning, and who are willing to promote FSL and liaise with our partners and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate has volunteered in his/her community and may have prior experience on boards (in business, education, management or legal settings). He or she is self–directed, good at solving problems, and a lifelong learner. Teamwork and leadership skills, along with effective communication skills and the ability to participate actively in discussion and deliberation, are essential.
Candidates for the National Board must be CPF members. Board positions are voluntary and travel is required. Time commitments will vary based on the Board’s needs; a few days per month is likely, in addition to attendance at all board meetings (approximately five times per year). All travel, meals, accommodation and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be covered. Training sessions for Board members are set up in conjunction with the National Board meetings. Any nominee who is currently serving on a Branch or Chapter board, or who is receiving remuneration for work commissioned by CPF, will be required to resign from said position upon his or her election to the CPF National Board.
For more information, visit our website at www.cpf.ca. Any current CPF member can nominate another person as a candidate. You can not nominate yourself but are free to nominate any other CPF member, including a spouse or partner that shares your membership number. If you would like to nominate someone, please ensure that you have their agreement, and then forward a resumé with a cover letter to the Committee Chair, Laurel McIntyre, at cpf.mcintyre@gmail.com.
*Please note that an extension to the deadline for receipt of nominations has been granted to June 15, 2010.
